EGS (b. 1974) is the most internationally recognized Finnish graffiti artist. His career started in Helsinki during the late 80’s when he was part of the country’s first graffiti wave. A self-proclaimed graffiti anthropologist, he has been pivotal in the historical documentation and dissemination of the movement. Over the past 35 years he has traveled to five continents and painted in over 50 countries, spurred by an intense desire to explore both the formal and folkloric truths of graffiti, and to uncover its deeply social and material foundations. EGS has exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide as well as completed numerous public art commissions.
